hey there.
someone gave me 100 large phoenix worms. i've never feed worms before so could anyone tell me how to get the "dirt" off them? best offering methods? i see some geckos don't like 'em too much.
i don't have experiance with dragons or other worm eating reptiles, so this worm stuff is all greek to me. just rats, flies and crickets Wink

if you wait a few mins the worms will stat to dry up, and so will the sawdust or whatever the hell that crap is. then you can blow it off or brush it off...

mkae sure that whatever container you put your worms in is completely dry, if there is even a speck of water somewhere, the worm will eventually be able to climb out of the dish/bowl

i got one rhac to eat them once, and never again.....was a big miss for me

Monster,
Did you think that was about the right size for your cresties?  Will you use them again?

thanks,

yeah, the size was great. they're about the size of medium crickets.
i'd pick them up if my local pet store carried them. so probably not until the next expo.
there is a lot in one jar for only a few geckos (100 i think?). though, i was told they last a long time. i went through mine in 2 feedings.

Yeah, I read that they can last as long as two months.  But I think that is the medium size.  So about how many per gecko did you feed per night? I think I'm going to order 4 tubs of 100 online.  That's $26 shipped.

thanks again,

i just rotated diffrent geckos the second night. most the younger ones ate them up without a second thought. everyone who loves crickets had no problems. there were plenty of tiny ones in the jar for me to give some to the juvi's too.
many folks say that their geckos didn't like them, so you may want to test one jar out first if you can find a pet store that carries it.

Geeze, I need to read the thread more closely before I ask a question.

Thanks Monster,

I got some phoenix worms about a week ago.  They've been received with a luke warm response.  All of the geckos like to watch them.  Picture me watching the geckos watching the phoenix worms.  It could make a funny photo if you could capture the whole thing.  Anyway, I'd say I got about the same response as Monster.  One thing I noticed is, if you wet them a bit, they can climb out of any container.  It gives them the sticky to make an escape.  I'm sure my geck's won't eat them all before they expire.  Oh well, it was worth a try. Cry

I ordered some phoenix worms a couple days ago for my Bearded Dragons, have not got them yet, but hopefully they will be a hit. I will give some to my older Crested, and see if he likes them. Lets hope i didnt waste the money on those worms.

Cheesy that would be a funny photo...
too bad they don't sell them in smaller quantity's. i'll probably pick them up at the next reptile expo though. just the time it saves me from gutloaded and dealing with crickets i don't feel it's a waste of my money...i really don't like hassling with crickets Tongue

hmm, there's a good article on all the different types of feeder worms in the latest Reptiles magazine.  phoenix worms would seem to be a good choice, i'm going to have to look into it a bit more.  i think they need to be stored at 50-60 degrees F.

Hmmm.  Don't know what to think of them now.  I thought some of them were getting eaten.  But the other day I was doing some cage cleaning and found some of the little buggers under the paper towels.  For now it looks like I'm back to crickets as a live treat.
