BUT- i am enjoying the turkistan roaches much more than crickets. Cleaning their bin is so easy. Crickets are usually getting loose, they stink, etc..

the roaches just cling to the cardboard, etc, and if not, i can scoop them in a plastic cup and drop them where i want them. i do wish they were smaller as adults. they are SO big, some of my cresteds are afraid of them, but so far they are easy and not smelly. i mean they have their own odor, but nothing offensive such as Crickets.

NOW, i have had them quite a while and my hubby still does not know. either that or he knows and does not want me to know he knows. but i have a feeling i'll be in trouble if i tell him. he does NOT want roaches in the house. i understand but after working with them, they are not a problem.

They are freaky little things... We have a bunch too, I don't mind them in the bin, but I hate when I have to get them out.

EEEWWW No thanks.  With my luck I would drop some and they would breeding all over my house.  At least the escapee crix end up dried and dead in a few weeks (those that miss with the vaccuum anyway).

I don't need a roach infestation.   Shocked

that is what i said at first, but none have escaped, as turks cannot climb smooth surfaces. and the geckos love the taste, but they are very fast, so it's a challenge for the gex. if i have an escape, i'll go get roach motels. trust me. but i doubt it will happen. Crickets got out all the time, but these roaches are easier to deal with.

Having lived once in New York City (for 9 years)  I can honestly say that it just would bring back too many unpleaseant memories.  I just can't have roaches in the house.   Something about insects that can swivel their head and look at you really gives me the willies.  Even my mantid babies kind creep me out when I walk in the room an their little heads turn and look at me.

i totallly agree on the mantids. i hate those things, not only are they creepy, but they kill and eat hummingbirds. i won't have them. i will take one to a neighbors back yard, but it is not killing any Hummingbirds on my watch.

I kinda think mantid are cool.  Just the swivel head thing is creepy.

It is a bitter pill to swallow watching them eat stuff like that but we have to remember they just trying to stay alive.  Nature is mercenary afterall.

Still I have to agree I would not want to see something like that.

Yeah I really like my roaches! I have dubia and laterials, along with some lobsters (sorry the latin name escapes me..)
The have much more fat on them too, and the newly hatched ones are WAY easier to keep than pinnhead crickets Smiley
